💚 School Project Creativity (1): “Happiness Tree – A Journey to Inner Strength”

Sharma, June 24, 2025June 25, 2025

Here’s a creative and meaningful School Project on Mental Health & Wellbeing designed for Class 5/6/7 students. It uses craft, creativity, positive psychology, and age-appropriate research and reflection.

🌟 Introduction

A. Conceptualization

🪔 Background Story of the Project

In a small Indian village, a Class 6 girl named Meera was often stressed before exams. One day, her grandmother gave her a tiny plant and said, “Talk to it when you’re sad. It will grow with your happiness.” Meera named it her Happiness Tree. Every time she did something good for her mind – like playing, resting, or helping – she added a leaf to her tree. Over time, the tree flourished, and so did her mind.

Inspired by Meera’s story, you will create your own Happiness Tree to explore mental health, inner strength, and wellbeing.

🧠 Plan the Project

  • Topic: Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Theme: Growing Inner Strength
  • Duration: 2–3 weeks
  • Mode: Individual or Team of 2
  • Output: Craft-based + PPT/Video + 3D Model

💡 Research and Brainstorm

  • What is mental health?
  • What makes you happy or relaxed?
  • What habits help your brain and heart feel better?
  • Talk to parents, teachers, and friends
  • Read short stories, poems, or watch simple videos on mindfulness or stress relief

🎨 B. Design and Develop

🧰 Material Used:

  • Cardboard, chart papers, sticks, thermocol
  • Colored paper, buttons, cloth, wool
  • Recycled materials like boxes, plastic bottles
  • Mobile/tablet for presentation/video
  • Paints, sketch pens, glue, clay

🛠️ Activities Involved (3 Steps):

  1. Create Your Own “Happiness Tree” Model
    1. Trunk: Write your strengths (e.g., kindness, courage)
    1. Leaves: Add a leaf each time you do something for your wellbeing (play, talk to someone, help others, rest, be thankful)
    1. Roots: Family, teachers, culture, and traditions that give you strength
  2. Design a Mind Map or 2D Poster
    1. Include 5 good habits for mental health
    1. Add pictures or quotes from Indian thinkers like Swami Vivekananda, APJ Abdul Kalam, or your parents’ wisdom
  3. Make a “Feel Good Kit”
    1. A small box with mini cards: gratitude card, stress buster tip, smiley sticker, a simple yoga pose sketch, etc.

🎥 C. Presentation & Evaluation

🖥️ PPT and Video

  • Create a simple 4–5 slide PPT:
    • Slide 1: Title and Your Name
    • Slide 2: Why this project?
    • Slide 3: What did you do?
    • Slide 4: What did you learn?
  • Or make a 2-minute video: Show your Happiness Tree, poster, and Feel-Good Kit

🧩 Model (2D or 3D)

  • 2D: Chart of Mind Map or Mental Health Habits
  • 3D: Tree Model using thermocol, clay, or recycled materials

⚙️ Running Model (if possible)

  • Add LED lights that glow when “positive actions” are done
  • Use rotating parts or small motors to show “thoughts” moving from stress to calm
  • QR Code with student’s audio on what makes them happy

📚 D. Learning from the Project

💡 Ideas and Concept Learning

  • What is mental wellbeing and why it matters
  • Indian ways to stay mentally strong (family, values, yoga, play)
  • Awareness of emotional habits like kindness, hope, gratitude

🛠️ Execution Learning

  • Using recycled material and imagination
  • Planning and time management
  • Trying simple electronics or craft engineering (LED, rotating parts)

🎤 Presentation Learning

  • Telling your ideas through PPT/video
  • Using your voice and creativity to explain feelings
  • Confidence to talk about emotional wellbeing in a healthy way
